Reader's Guide:
In this week’s readings, we start working our way through the book of Leviticus, with all of its rules and regulations about life and religious practice for both the priests and the people.
This week’s readings, in particular, are mostly focused on the priesthood, which is why we’re starting with a re-read of Exodus 40. That chapter describes the initial setup of the Tabernacle—the place where God dwelt among his people and where the priests would be continually working in close proximity to his divine presence. The seriousness and the splendor of the Tabernacle ought to remind us what a serious thing we’re hearing as we read about the sacrifices in the early chapters of Leviticus.
