Reader's Guide:
This week, we’ll be finishing our first read-thru of the book of Exodus and taking in a couple of the Bible’s ‘reviews’ of these grand events.
On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, we’ll get some of the final details of the Tabernacle’s intricate construction. The long description of this process has two conclusions:
- First, a description of the finery worn by those who would stand before God as priests—garments worthy of a great King’s presence (Ex. 39).
- Second, a culminating moment: the Tabernacle is completed and the glory of God dwells among his people! This fulfills part of the promise that God had made to them by the mouth of Joseph almost 500 years earlier — “Behold, I am about to die, but God will be with you and will bring you again to the land of your fathers” (Gn. 48:21). He has been with them all along, but now, his house and his throne have come to rest at the center of who they are. What a grand, gracious blessing!
On Thursday and Friday this week, we’ll read two summary lessons from other parts of the Bible—places where other faithful ones who had meditated on the Exodus and their own current spiritual state saw lessons to be learned from who God had always been. Let these serve as two reviews of all that we’ve seen so far, and I think we’ll see instruction in how we should be interpreting our own lives in light of the God of Exodus.
