Reader's Guide:
In the first part of week’s readings, we’ll be regaled with more details of the Tabernacle’s layout, construction, and operation. The consecration of the priests (ch. 29) shows us how important it was to God that the men who served in his presence be holy—truly set apart for his service. Chapter 30 shows us how truly precious the Tabernacle was, with its precious metals, its specific sets of instructions, and the exclusivity of some of its items (e.g. the anointing oil). Chapter 31 tells us about two men who worked with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit (like apostles and prophets) to construct God’s dwelling place just as he envisioned it.
Then, on Thursday and Friday, we’ll read Exodus 32. This chapter, like Genesis 3, is often regarded as a ‘fall’ story—a time, like Genesis 3, when God’s children exhibited a shocking and terribly destructive lack of faith in him. It’s arguably one of the core chapters of the Old Testament, so we’ll read it twice, giving us time to absorb its impact.
