Reader's Guide:
In this week’s readings, we’ll get into some more historical and numerical information. Monday’s reading tells of divine punishment on one of Israel’s neighboring nations. Tuesday’s tells how the Israelites were divided to live on both sides of the Jordan River. Wednesday’s is a recap of that which is imperative for Israel not to forget: The places God has brought them from and the goals of his leading them forward. Thursday’s reading is more administrative, outlining the borders of the land and leaders whom they will follow. And on Friday, we’ll finish the book of Numbers with the law about cities of refuge and generational heirs to the land.
All in all, the book of Numbers is a heavy load of information about what happened to Israel and how they were called to live in response to God. It’s a hard read at times, but it is so instructive about the relationship between God and his people.
